Hurricane Irma displaced a large, prickly pear cacti that was growing next to our driveway. The other day, we broke off pieces that were obfuscating a nearby bougainvillea bush, and we placed the broken cacti branches and pods along a fence where we would like to have more privacy. I found a cute little cacti bud on the ground and scooped it up to put in my pocket and so I could draw it later. I cut it in half with an Exacto(R) knife and was delighted to see the delicate inside of the bud, which reminded me of the heart of lettuce or celery. I’m thinking of filling this page with little delicacies from the garden … in a serendipitous botanical style.
